Chinese basics

Here is a list of basic words in Chinese that can still be useful during your stay in China.

The pronunciation is in brackets.

  •      Hello: 你好 (ni hao)
  •      My name is ……: 我 的 姓名 是 …. (wo shi ming xing)
  •      How are you? : 你 好吗? (ni hao ma)
  •      Thank you: 谢谢 (xie xie)
  •      Goodbye: 再见 (zai jian)
  •      How much does it cost? : 多少 钱? (duo shao qian)
  •      I do not understand: 我 不 明白 (wo bu ming bai)
  •      What time is it? : 现在 几点 了? (the xian zai ji dian)
  •      France: 法国 (fa guo)
  •      I am French: 我 是 法国 人 (wo shi fa guo ren)
  •      Or: 在 那里 (zai na li)
  •      Here 这里 (zhe li)
  •      There: 那里 (na li)
  •      It’s expensive: 很贵 (hen gui)
  •      It’s too expensive: 太贵 (tai gui)
  •      It’s cheap: 便宜 (pian yi)
  •      Why: 为什么 (wei shen me)
